was born in Falkirk, Scotland in 1931. She studied at Edinburgh University and Edinburgh College of Art gaining an M.A.Hons. Fine Art Degree 1949-55. Subsequently she taught at Edinburgh College of Art from 1962 until her retirement in 1986. Elizabeth Blackadder was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the Birthday Honours 1982. She is a Royal Academician, Royal Scottish Academician, Member of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour, Member of the Society of Scottish Artists, Member of the Royal Glasgow Institute, and Member of the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland, She has Honorary Doctorates from Heriot Watt University, and the University of Edinburgh She has also exhibited in Scotland, Italy, Canada and New York. Her work is in very many Public Collections in Britain and the U.S.A. Elizabeth Blackadder has had 18 Solo Exhibitions at Mercury Gallery since 1965. |
